Final Round: Cast Your Vote for this Year's T-shirt!
We've narrowed it to 5 choices, now you decide!
The votes have been cast in the first round of voting and we’ve narrowed the selection from 20 songs down to the final five. We even had a tie in Bracket 2 and had to resort to a coin flip to choose the winner who would advance!
Once a song is selected as the winner, we’ll open this year’s Lyrical Code Challenge for all of you to submit your creative entries converting the song lyrics into code in all of your favorite languages on our Github repo, which will finally be composed into this year’s polyglot conference t-shirt that is included with the price of your ticket!
As a special note, I still have a few free tickets to give away that are leftover from the Advent of Code challenge… #foreshadowing
Songs in the Final
Here are your finalists in order by bracket, include a YouTube link and a link to the song lyrics. Excerpts of the song lyrics are included below the poll for your convenience as you weigh which song you’d like to turn into code for this year’s t-shirt.
Cast Your Votes!
This poll will remain open for 1 week for you to cast your votes.
Song Lyric Excerpts
Summer of 69
I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five and dime
Played it 'til my fingers bled
Was the summer of '69
Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I should've known we'd never get far
Oh, when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life
Code Monkey get up, get coffee
Code Monkey go to job
Code Monkey have boring meeting
With boring manager Rob
Rob say Code Monkey very diligent
But his output stink
His code not "functional" or "elegant"
What do Code Monkey think?
Code Monkey think maybe manager want to write ***-****** login page himself
Code Monkey not say it out loud
Code Monkey not crazy, just proud
Code Monkey like Fritos
Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew
Code Monkey very simple man
With big warm fuzzy secret heart
Code Monkey like you
It's close to midnight
And something evil's lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight
You see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream
But terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze
As horror looks you right between the eyes
'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no one's gonna save you
From the beast about to strike
You know it's thriller, thriller night
You're fighting for your life inside a killer
Thriller tonight, yeah
Where it began
I can't begin to know when
But then I know it's growin' strong
Was in the spring
And spring became the summer
Who'd have believed you'd come along?
Hands, touchin' hands
Reachin' out, touchin' me, touchin' you
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would
But now I…
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality
Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go, little high, little low
Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to me
Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooh, didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters
