Last year we decided to try a new thing for our 2023 Carolina Code Conference t-shirt: we took a great song and turned it into code in multiple languages!
In order to get there, we solicited nominations, polled all of you and narrowed down the song choice until we finally selected Don’t Stop Believing by Journey. Once selected, we created a Github repo and took community submissions in your favorite languages before combining them together in the final result! The shirts were a hit and seem to be well received all around based on many positive returns.
This year, we have several great songs to choose from so please choose your favorites in the polls below. We’ll take the winners from each and create a final poll to select the official nominee for the 2024 shirt.
Remember, the key to these songs working as a shirt is our ability to translate the song lyrics into code so that you naturally find yourself singing the song in your head as you read each line. Songs that are very repetitive tend to not work as well.
For example…we’re not using Sandstorm by Darude (sorry Gamecock fans).

Without further ado, here are your 2024 nominees! Give them a review and then proceed to voting in the 5 brackets below.
I'd Rather Be in Carolina - Chairmen of the Board [ YouTube, Lyrics ]
The Sound of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel [ YouTube, Lyrics ]
Here’s a Spotify Playlist as well, just in case you want to do some research for your votes. Unfortunately, they don’t have “I’d Rather Be in Carolina” available so a different Chairmen of the Board song has been substituted on the Spotify list.
These brackets have been randomly shuffled and the voting will be open to subscribers for 1 week.

Well, we ended up with a tied in Bracket 2 between Eye of the Tiger and Code Monkey so I'm going to resolve the winner with a coin flip....
and Code Monkey wins!
